When I first heard about WRC 3 I was so excited, the reason being I'm into racing games and always fancy a challenge and trying to be faster with each lap I do even if it's only by a tenth of a second and having playing the previous 2 games I thought WRC 3 would be a brilliant part of the series. Now with rallying all you can really do is be the fastest so times are everything because you don't exactly race anyone on the track so you can't look left and turn right and take the other car of the track but instead you will find your self sweating and trying to keep the car on the track whilst you keep your finger on the acceleration button.
One thing I will tend to mention about this game before I go into detail about it, is you really need to have basic idea about rallying because when you load up the game you don't really have a tutorial to show you what to do and what the rules are. The only sort of thing the game shows you is on the loading screens it shows you the buttons that are used to control the car you are driving. So it's probably best if you just give your self two minutes from watching those video's you like to watch and pull your hand from your trousers and do a bit of background checking on the sport of rallying out.
Anyway lets move on to career mode basically you go racing around on a variety of tracks using different cars to gain stars which help you progress through the ranks and thats all you could really describe about career mode and if thats not entertaining enough im afraid thats tough tits unless your a die hard fan then time trail will suit the your needs. Even though career mode sounds bad I feel it's not really that important because the way the car feels when you drive it and the amazing tracks that are available are just about enough to make any rallying fan wet their pants. Multiplayer is basically the same but you race against other people online rather than made up times the computer feels it has achieved.
Now I know I didn't really go into much depth about career mode even though I probably could but what do you expect from a rallying game? The option to add machine guns to your car so you can shoot at the little girl eating an ice cream who just seems to be in the crowd? Even though that does sound fun the game is really more about you versus the road and this will bring me onto the handling of the cars within the game and let me say just say they are bloody perfect, there are not many games out there where the cars actually respond to what you want it to do, like power slide round a corner whilst actually looking good whilst doing it.
One thing that brings fun and enjoyment to the game is, you can be driving along on the tarmac feeling safe and then suddenly you see some gravel up ahead and your car really does to begin to slide and you have to keep it under control. So really by having to think and adjust on how you drive the car it really does make the game more satisfying because you will not be doing the same thing over again causing brain damage.
Even though I have so much positive things to say about WRC 3 the physics kind of let the game down a bit, because you could touch the barrier a little bit and find your car being pulled into it like the barrier has some sort of glue on it. But the worst of is when your car somehow gets launched in the air and flaps around like a pigeon with one wing even though it'll make you laugh when you see it, It'll make you rage when it keeps doing it.
Now the graphics in the game are pretty good and some realistic effects going on but the sound is mediocre because all you want really is the sound of the card and the crunching of gravel underneath the cars tires but theres not really much of that within the game, but the sound of the car is pretty good apart from when crash it and realise you have lost a lot of time.
Overall I feel that WRC 3 is a a pretty good game and I would probably urge people to purchase it, that only being if your into racing games and like a challenge. But please do some research on rallying before hand otherwise you will find your self clueless and not understanding what the game is about.
Even with the physics of the game being a bit poor i still found my self enjoying this game and feeling my self hooked with the challenge of trying to beat lap times and watching the car do amazing power slides around the corner. With all this being said I provide WRC 3 with a rating of 8/10
